2nd DBN X FST
(Durban X Fest)
15 – 17 July 2016
Durban’s extreme beach festival is back for a second year to bring Bay of Plenty beach screaming to life with a collection of extreme sports events and entertainment for all. With the vision of creating an annual event that showcases all elements of Durban lifestyle and alternative sports, the festival will host a number of events along with partner brands to bring Durban a unique taste of the strength of the industry in the birthplace of surfing and skateboarding in Africa.
Surfing takes centre stage at the historic Bay of Plenty beach as DBN X FST hosts a number of epic surfing events:
O’Neill are proud to announce the second installment of the Super Grom event. O’Neill will be looking for 28 of KZN’s best up and coming surfers from 6 – 14 years of age, to compete for some sick prizes.
Catch Surf Expressions Session will invite 12 pro surfers to surf two 15 min expression session heats on Beater boards provided. The winner will score themselves a Catch Surf Beater Board and Catch Surf signature baggies.
DBNxTAG is our signature surfing event. Mixed 5 member inter-brand teams go head to head in an “old skool” tag format surf showdown. The event promotes good vibes on the sand and in the sea, with the winning team taking home R5000.
We see the return of the Holmes Brothers Modern Retro Masters Challenge, where the surfer who rides all the boards the best wins some epic prizes including a Holmes Brothers surfboard and more! Entry fee R100 at La Lucia HB store or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Kimberley Diamond Cup Qualifiers will return to the Durban Beachfront on Saturday, 16 July to find the top Durban skaters to qualify to compete at Kimberley Diamond Cup this October 3-8. Along with the top Rider Cup team, the top 5 previously unqualified skaters in each the TopGrom (13-) division and Open (14+) division will earn a spot into the KDC South African Skateboarding Championships in Kimberley. The contest will be held on the Durban Beachfront Skatepark with added obstacles to make it more exciting.

This year’s FST sees some great live musical entertainment. On Saturday Red Bull presents the Red Bull Studio Nights featuring top artists from around South Africa. Friday and Sunday afternoons will play out with some great music on the lawns. Details of this will be released soon.
Fox “No Pro” BMX Jam brought to you by BMX Direct. Top BMX athletes will be competing in a Jam style format to see who can throw down the biggest, most technical and stylish tricks on their BMX bikes. The winner walks away with R2000. Freestyle BMX riding is more of an art form than a sport and the rider who creatively makes the best use of the park, whilst performing innovative tricks that are flawlessly linked together with style and finesse will be deemed the winner on the day.
Saturday will see the I HEART Market serving up some tasty treats and awesome crafts on the lawns. The food will continue through to Sunday to keep your bellies full and hearts warm.
